Milgard makes window technology simple.
Many factors affect energy efficiency in your home. One of the simplest things you can do to make an immediate impact is to replace your windows. Inefficient windows can account for 10% to 25% of your heating bill.*
An energy efficient window is a synergy of its components. We call it the "three dimensions of window design." Here's what you should look for.

Quality matched components.
1. GlassGlass increases solar efficiency, often measured as a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. Lower numbers indicate greater efficiency, which reduces fading of home furnishings and saves energy. All Milgard windows come standard with SunCoat® Low-E glass. We also offer SunCoatMAX™ for even greater performance without sacrificing natural light.
2. SpacerEdgeGard™ spacers keep inside surface temperatures warm, reduce moisture and condensation, and expand and contract to minimize seal failure. For advanced spacer technology, all-foam EdgeGardMAX™ offers additional benefits such as reducing sound transfer by up to 18%.
3. FrameEngineered for performance, every chamber within the frame of our vinyl and fiberglass windows is specifically engineered for strength, noise reduction and heat loss.

SunCoat®
This clear, microscopically thin coating is applied to one side of the glass to reflect heat from its source in the summer, keep heat inside in the winter and reduce harmful UV rays. SunCoat® comes standard on all Milgard dual-pane windows.
Benefits to You:
- Consistent temperatures for greater year-round comfort = Saving energy which reflects in your heating and cooling bills.
- Reducing solar gain up to 84% = Helping to protect that new couch from the sun’s damaging rays.
-
SunCoatMAX™
SunCoatMAX™ provides the best clarity and highest performance of all solar gain Low-E glass products. (Download PDF, 976 kb)
Benefits to You:
- Increasing center glass surface temperature in winter = Comfortable, consistently cozy rooms.
- Reducing solar gain another 34% over two-coat, low-E glass = Keeps your house cooler in the summer.
- Providing 95% ultraviolet light blockage = Additional protection from UV-A and UV-B rays.
-
EdgeGard™
Traditional spacers divide two panes of glass, but don't contribute to efficiency. Enter EdgeGard™. With a more advanced design, EdgeGard™ provides superior insulating properties and helps to reduce condensation.
Benefits to You:
- Conducting less energy = Maintaining a more constant temperature.
- Reducing condensation = Limiting moisture and unsightly streaks.
-
EdgeGardMAX
Milgard’s state-of-the-art spacer uses a patented all-foam design that stops condensation from forming and literally extends the life of the glass. (Download PDF, 811 kb)
Benefits to You:
- Conducting less energy = Maintaining a more constant temperature.
- Blocking heat escape path = more year-round comfort.
- Reducing condensation = Limiting moisture and unsightly streaks.
- All-foam spacer expands and contracts = Less chance of seal failure or stress cracks.
- Reduces noise transfer up to 18% over all-metal spacers = Helps keep outside noise where it belongs—outside.
